Pleasantly surprised with this movie. Al Pacino plays an old rock star who isn't aging so gracefully but decides to take his life in a new direction. It's just a nice, pleasant movie, with loads of good actors.....charming and nice.
I would skip the trailer because then you will know alot of what's coming.
but here is the link just in case you want to see it or see a few seconds
Spy is a spy comedy that is riddled with cheap insults, the "f" word, slap stick humor, and decent parody. It is much greater than the sum of its parts, and it had me laughing more than most comedies. Melissa McCarthy was perfect in her role, as were some of the other actors. The basic story is about a CIA analyst who is sent into the field to thwart an international plot.
A slow paced movie about a developing relationship in a survival situation and how it becomes a love triangle. I thought the slow pace actually added to the movie. The trailer sets the scene well.
Amnesia is a two-part mini-series from the UK. Usually I get bored with UK productions because of British understatement. But this one didn't suffer from that. So now I'm wondering if UK audiences thought it was too dramatic. But more to the point, despite some gaps and nonsense, this one is a descent crime mystery.
I watched it free as part of my Amazon Prime membership, which is not free. So I guess that means I paid for it. The Amazon summary says: "A policeman is left distraught after his wife's sudden disappearance on their fifth wedding anniversary. His efforts to find her seem to be in vain and, despite suffering from terrifying hallucinations, he's forced to return to work - where he becomes obsessed with the strange case of a man who also vanished in mysterious circumstances. Could the two cases be linked?"
I just watched this 30 year old movie again. I've watched it a few times before. I'm not sure how to describe it without giving too much away. I guess the obtuse way would be to say it's about an Amish widow (and her family) who end up giving shelter to a hardened Philadelphia police detective who is being hunted. The preview I located plays up the crime/action/violence aspects of the story. But I didn't post it because I most enjoyed the human story about two different cultures colliding, with all the crime thriller stuff just adding some spice of danger to it all.
All the performances were strong, except for Harrison Ford, who always seems to fall short. But he must be doing something right, because I own two of his movies (including this one).
I recommend this. It is not a slick documentary about ice, landscape, and seals. It is about the personal lives of the people who live in Antarctica. I always imagined that there were just a bunch of small outposts put their by different countries to do scientific research. But it's more. There is also a town there. The continent population is about 5000 during the summer, and 700 during the winter.
The documentary begins with the summer months, which was sort of interesting. And also boring at times. But then they got to the winter months. This is four months of darkness and some interesting weather conditions. People spoke of what it is like to endure that as the winter wears on. Interesting was some people begin to lose their memories. One man could not remember his father's phone number, which he had known since childhood. And speech problems. But not being a scientific documentary, they didn't hazard a guess as to why. Also interesting was to see what happens to dwellings when winds over 200mph force snow through the crack where the window frame meets the windows sill.
The documentary has a very informal fell, as if the people in it were simply showing visitors different things there. With us (the viewers) being the visitors. And sharing things in a chatty way.
This movie is sort-of okay to watch. It's a B thriller. The beginning was a bit shaky, the supporting actors were a bit generic, and I had to work to suspend my disbelief. But I got all the way to the end, and I even like the way they handled the ending.
It's a movie about a young woman who believes a kidnapper who once targeted her has just kidnapped her sister. But because the police don't believe the sister has been kidnapped, the woman is stuck taking matters into her own hands.
